October is Women in Small Business Month
October is Women in Small Business Month, and consider these impressive statistics for 2008 as compiled by the Center for Women’s Business Research:
• There were 10.1 million firms in the U.S. that were 50 percent or more owned by women;
• These businesses employed 13 million people;
• They generated $1.9 trillion in sales;
• One in five firms with revenues of $1 million or more was woman-owned.
Locally, Phoenix College is hosting an economic forum on Oct. 28. The event is entitled “Women Talk: Money and More,” and will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the John Paul Theatre, 1202 W. Thomas Road. This free event will provide a forum for women to learn about personal economic growth and development.
A panel discussion will be from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Panelists will offer presentations on women’s economic issues, education, personal safety and domestic violence awareness, debt management, budgeting and surviving in a down economy.
