The reception is on First Friday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m., and will open the exhibition La Casa Murillo: A Life-Size Shadow Box.
Kathy Cano-Murillo, the crafts queen of media and craft-store fame, will be there to smile and greet you, along with her artist/musician husband, Patrick Murillo.
At the reception, you will be among the first to view the Heard’s new show, as the Murillos personally unveil their fantasy home in the museum’s Lovena Ohl Gallery.
LPM and Kathy had a little conversation about her upcoming show. She is so chatty that we share some here, and the entire dialogue is posted online at www.latinopm.com.
Trust us, the Crafty Chica has a lot to say. But you can hear it all for yourself at the Cultural Connections reception. To attend just go to www.latinopm.com and RSVP.
You can always trust Latino Perspectives’s Cultural Connections to usher you in to some of the Valley art and culture world’s most exciting happenings.
So get on the inside. Connect with LPM Cultural Connections.
LPM: How did the concept for your exhibit at the Heard come about?
KCM: We’ve always dreamed of having a house where everything is handmade by
us, because that is what we love to do the most - embellish anything
and everything! So this is our dream come true!
LPM: Criterion for the show?
KCM: 1. We choose themes we love, not what is trendy or in style.
2. Everything has to have some kind of handmade touch to it.
3. It has to be over-the-top and bigger than life to make it worthy of an exhibit.
4. We are using techniques that people can use at home.

If you can't get enough of Kathy's handmade know-how, you can also catch her leading a tour of the modern craft exhibition "Radical Lace & Subversive Knitting" during a Latin-infused celebration at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday, December 12th from 5-8 p.m. Call 480-874-4612 for more details...
It's good to see this chica taking over the Valley, one bottle of glitter at a time!
