Minority contractors honor builders at awards event

The 2008 Associated Minority Contractors of America awards ceremony promises to be its biggest and best ever.

The Associated Minority Contractors of America (AMCA) continues to grow, and its 2008 AMCA awards ceremony promises to be its biggest and best ever, says Executive Director Ricardo Carlo. The event will take place Oct. 25 at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale. With over 900 attendees anticipated, the AMCA will recognize partners in the greater Phoenix community that have contributed to the success of minority contractors.

Tempe City Councilman Ben Arredondo will be inducted to the AMCA Hall of Fame for his continuous support of the minority business community.  Others to be honored at the event include METRO light rail as the 2008 Project of the Year, Turner Construction as the General Contractor/Mentor of the Year, and Tauny Woo with the City of Phoenix Engineering and Architectural Services Department as the Minority Business Advocate of the Year.  Role models for the minority business community will also be recognized, such as MRM Construction Services as the Minority General Contractor of the Year and HG Steel as the 2008 Subcontractor of the Year.

The theme of this year’s event is Building the Future While Preserving the Environment.  The entire event has been planned in an eco-friendly fashion. The AMCA logo has been redesigned to reflect this new focus. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the awards ceremony starting at 7:00 p.m.   For more information, contact Carlo at (602) 495-0026 or amca@qwest.net.
