DENOUNCING AD TACTICS

I am seeking the intervention of the state LULAC office to condemn the current television announcements being aired on behalf of numerous candidates running for political office, including that of Governor, U.S. Senate and Congressional races.

They present animosity against Latinos, particularly immigrants, (and it) has escalated. The announcements do not suppress prejudiced overtones against our community. The ads instill fear and anger within populations that are vulnerable and who are still shaky about 9/11 and the overall security of our nation.

We will no longer respond to (the) political sociology they apply to the masses; it is clear manipulation of the good people of Arizona.

These tactics are not new. They were used in another form, to justify the war against Iraq, and in this case, to win elections. We need to open the eyes of the electorate.

Candidates are desperate and have crossed the line. They aggressively make statements that are not true. The ads talk about an invasion by Mexicans coming to Arizona in “waves.” Most of these ads are promoting Republicans.

We must demand that these ads be taken off the air and that candidate J.D. Hayworth and the others apologize to Latinos. These ads promote hatred, ill will and foster discrimination against you and I: Chicanos, undocumented Mexicans and legal resident aliens. Ya basta. We must counter the message being sent by these “hate mongers“ who have exposed themselves for who they really are: persons devoid of good character and decency, all for the sake of gaining political power, and personal aggrandizement.

The tactics they are using are not consistent with the philosophy of the founders of this great nation. Imagine if any of these parasites get elected, it will be a very sad day in Arizona.

Please urge the people of Arizona to respond, by calling or contacting the respective media that is promoting these ads. In addition we need to consult and seek the support of We Are America and the political coalition you are a member of.

In the near future we must consider a boycott of national conventions and sports events coming to Arizona to demonstrate our displeasure with the negative political climate present in our state.

THANKS FOR REPORTS

Kudos to Ruben Hernandez, Keith Rosenblum and the entire staff of the magazine for the excellent reporting of immigration issues and true accounts of the Hispanos/Latinos interviewed (Special Reports Citizen Latino and Force in Motion, May and June LPM 2006). All the articles were not only interesting, informative and insightful, but also extremely revealing of peoples’ feelings and opinions regarding immigration. These accounts made me better informed of what is out there, for normally, we only hve access to our limited circles of families’ and friends’ opinions. Now, we can better understand and discus these issues with added in-depth knowledge.

What an extraordinary piece of journalistic endeavor allof you accomplished! You went beyond what was expected and should feel very proud. Congratulations and I hope you continue with this type of work. Gracias y buena suerte.
