Latinos and their dwellings
Casa Y Comunidad: Latino Home and Neighborhood Design, a new book by Henry Cisneros, discusses new trends.
Casa Y Comunidad: Latino Home and Neighborhood Design ($44.95, Builderbooks.com), a new book by Henry Cisneros, former San Antonio mayor and ex-U.S. secretary of Housing and Urban Development, discusses Hispanics as the fastest-growing segment of middle class home ownership. Latino homeowners are relatively young and show ownership rates below the national average.
The 12-chapter book was created by 14 writers who agree the homebuilding industry will have to customize its sales approach and build homes to suit Latino extended families.
Among the chapter topics are looks at what attracts Latinos to certain areas, the notion of building affordable housing close to jobs. Other topics covered include financing options and design preferences, including larger kitchen areas.
The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. (Freddie Mac) underwrote Casa Y Comunidad.
