Barrio Café would like to expand
Word on the restaurant rumor vine is that Barrio Café owners Silvano Salcido Esparza and Wendy Gruber are scouting a downtown Phoenix site for another upscale restaurant.
A source in the BC family (who requested anonymity) says the partners are shopping other locations, but haven’t finalized anything yet.
"We are hopeful," says the source. "Barrio Café would like to expand, but a new restaurant would have a different, funky vibration from Barrio Café, otherwise why do it."
Downtown Phoenix residents certainly would welcome some noveau/funky Latino fare in the city’s center. There are plenty of eateries with solid Mexican food, but nothing to write home to abuela about.
