'Devil Talk' book review

Devil Talk, by Daniel Olivas, is a book of tales to keep on a nightstand for Halloween or any gloomy night.

Olivas, out of California’s San Fernando Valley, is regarded as the Latino Stephen King. In one story, an aging Latino professor is murderously stalked by the Chicana student he seduced. In another chilling tale set in old Los Angeles, a rich Spanish aristocrat sleeps with La Diabla. Their unnatural union results in the old Don’s horrible demise.

Olivas sets most of his dark visions, grotesque people and demons amid South Califas’ real-life Chicano lifestyle. Devil Talk can be ordered through ASU’s Bilingual Review Press, www.asu.edu/brp/.
