Wal-Mart Offers Benefits

Wal-Mart Stores, often criticized for its lack of employee benefits, recently announced improvements to the health care benefits it offers its 1.3 million full- and part-time U.S. associates. The new plan includes more choices, reduced deductibles, pre-deductible health care credits and a $4 co-pay for more than 2,400 covered generic prescriptions. The company estimates the generic prescription program will save associates approximately $25 million in 2008.

Helen Darling, president of the National Business Group on Health, says “Wal-Mart’s benefits for part-timers are unusually good for the retail industry – in fact, for a number of industries.”

As of August 2007, Wal-Mart has 52 Supercenters, 12 Neighborhood Markets, 12 discount stores and 13 Sam's Clubs, for a total of 31,181 associates in Arizona. Wal-Mart spent $1.6 billion for merchandise and services with 917 suppliers in Arizona in 2007. For more, visit www.walmart.com.
