Qwest Makes Corporate Diversity Honor Roll

Latin Business magazine, a national magazine that celebrates U.S. Latino entrepreneurs and professionals, has recognized Qwest Communications International Inc. in its fourth annual "Corporate Diversity Honor Roll."

According to Latin Business, Qwest is among the top 16 companies it surveyed that increasingly recognize the positive benefits of corporate diversity. The publication's criteria for inclusion on its "Corporate Diversity Honor Roll" go beyond minority retention and marketing initiatives and minority representation as a percentage of employees. Latin Business looks for companies that demonstrate a proactive approach to overall diversity, an above-average level of understanding of the importance of diversity, well-executed diversity initiatives and effective communication of diversity efforts.

"At Latin Business, we take much more into account than just the numbers when evaluating companies for inclusion on the 'Corporate Diversity Honor Roll,' " says Dave Howard, managing editor of Latin Business."It is not simply a case of who has the most Hispanics or other minorities on the payroll -- we look at the overall quality of a company's diversity program."

Qwest has a director of diversity committed to developing and executing its strategic diversity plan. It also offers training, education and community volunteerism opportunities for Hispanic employees. The Qwest Hispanic employee resource group, called SOMOS, provides a unique cultural perspective to Qwest leadership on various business-related issues that are important to the Hispanic community. In 2006, more than 12.3 percent of Qwest's suppliers were minority-, woman- and disabled veteran-owned businesses (MWDVBE).

"Embracing diversity and creating a culture of inclusion makes Qwest a better company," said Teresa Taylor, executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Qwest. "Diversity is fundamental to every aspect of our business and Qwest is very proud to be recognized for a fourth year on the Latin Business 'Corporate Diversity Honor Roll.' "

The company has also recently been named to Latina Style Magazine's "Style 50" as one of the 50 Best Companies for Latinas to Work for in the U.S. (August 2007); listed on HISPANIC Magazine's "Corporate 100" list of companies that contribute most to the Hispanic community (February 2007); named to HISPANIC Magazine's list of the top 25 places for minorities to find opportunity for advancement (April 2006); and given the Martin Luther King, Jr. Business Social Responsibility Award (2007).
