Futbol fans extravaganza

Heads, feet and elbows will hammer rubber balls as almost a 100 Valley soccer teams face off in the 4th Annual COPA Food City Nov. 4-6 in Tempe.

Soccer futbol icon and World Cup star Albert Garcia Aspe will lead the inauguration parade and opening ceremonies on Saturday, Nov. 5. at the Tempe Sports Complex, 8401 S. Hardy Drive in Tempe. Mexican Consul General Carlos Flores Vizcarra is another honored guest.

Children's, men and women soccer teams will compete in this three-day tournament. Attendance is expected to exceed 30,000 local futbol aficionados, a healthy number which would correspond with the sport's tremendous popularity throughout the world. 

This soccer extravaganza features more than bouncing balls: There will be a vendor and food village with about 50 booths for games and eating, as well as entertainment.

The  soccer festival, created in 2001, is considered one of Arizona's largest futbol events. All players are provided with free uniforms and equipment. Visit www.myfoodcity.com.
