Soccer legend Tab Ramos joins Subway in fight juvenile obesity

Subway restaurants is also acknowledging the trend toward healthier dining by teaming up with Hispanic soccer hero Tab Ramos in a national effort to combat juvenile obesity among Latinos. The joint initiative, Scoring a Goal for our Youth, will take soccer Hall of Famer and former Olympian Ramos to cities around the country to speak to inner-city youth groups about the need to eat well, be active and follow one’s dreams.

As part of this agreement, Subway, which sponsored Ramos’ 2005 Hispanic Heritage Award for Sports, is providing seed money and logistical support to help launch The Tab Ramos GOAL! Foundation.

“Since retiring from Major League Soccer in 2002, my aim has been to help deliver a message of education through sports,” Ramos says.

Subway will also provide funding to the inner-city youth soccer clubs Ramos visits. Subway has stated its mission to help provide active, healthy lifestyles to Latino youth. For more, www.subway.com.
