Finding her voice

REVIEW: Musician's debut may fall short but shows a great future.

Finding her voice
This highly anticipated debut album from Argentine songstress Natalia Clavier spotlights her youthful yet sophisticated talent, but falls short of her real potential. Clavier wrote nine of the ten songs, and her voice floats languidly over sensual, Spanish lyrics and Latin rhythms. But the influence and contributions of compatriot, ex-pat musician Federico Aubele (whom she also tours with) lays too heavily on the tracks. Many of Clavier’s compositions mimic Aubele’s Tango-techno sound on his Panamericana CD, released last year. Still, it’s a good start, and her considerable skills signal success once she finds her own, unique sound and niche.
