Arterial health linked to strokes
Even a small amount of arterial plaque leads to higher risk in Latinos
Latinos with even a small amount of plaque buildup in their carotid artery – the vessel that supplies blood to the brain – are up to four times more likely to suffer or die from a stroke compared to those with clear arteries, a new study finds. Doctors from the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami say the results of the study would be used to develop stroke and vascular prevention programs, particularly for Hispanics, who represent the fastest growing minority population in the nation.
