Arizona lawmakers honor Hispanic media

Spanish-language media receives honors

The Arizona State Legislature honored Arizona’s Spanish-language media by declaring a Hispanic Media Day. A special ceremony was held at the Capitol on March 10. The move to recognize the Latino media’s contributions was led by state Rep. Ben Miranda, D-District 16, the vice president of the Legislature’s Latino Caucus. “More than inform the Spanish-speaking community, they also represent the point of view of that culture,” Miranda was quoted in La Voz weekly. Media representatives honored at the ceremony included Luis Manuel Ortiz, editorial director for La Voz; Carlos Loret de Mola, of Televisa; Mary Rabago, an anchor for Univision 33, Mirna Pineda, a journalist with Buena Onda 1190 AM; Nora Barraza, a reporter for Prensa Hispana; Thelma Abril, former general manager for Telemundo; and Rene Sanchez, a manager for Radio 740 AM.
