Mesa Chamber backs Austin in council race

Attorney Phil Austin received the Mesa Chamber of Commerce’s endorsement in his bid to become the City Council’s representative for District 5. The endorsement for the March 11 election came after Austin was interviewed and he completed a written response about issues important to the business community. The candidate is seeking the seat that will be vacated in June by Darrell Truitt. Austin, who has served as assistant Arizona attorney general, recently was given a Leadership Award in the Valle de Sol Profiles of Success. He also is president of Mesa Association of Hispanic Citizens and founder and board member of the Albert D. Austin Mariachi Academy (Mariachi Viva). In an unusual move, the Chamber’s board also endorsed challenger Dina Higgins in the District 5 race. For more, www.austinformesa.com.
