U of A offers teen substance abuse program
The University of Arizona's Southwest Institute for Research on Women and Compass Health Care has announced its collaboration on Las Mariposas Project, a free outpatient substance abuse treatment program for adolescents and their caregivers.
With the help of a grant funded by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA), the Las Mariposas Project provides treatment to those who qualify. There is no cost to qualifying families for the treatment provided though this project.
Adolescents ages 12 to 17, residing in Pima County and experiencing marijuana, alcohol and other substance abuse/addiction-related issues may qualify for the program. Treatment includes three months of outpatient therapy and an additional three months of follow up case management services.
Parent or guardian consent is required for enrollment into the program. Referrals to the program may be made by calling Compass Health Care's Outpatient Services Department at (520) 620-6615.
