Telemundo staying in touch

Recently LP Journal told readers about the drastic downsizing suffered at the local Spanish-language Telemundo affiliate. Despite that setback, remaining employees have managed to put together a new community information and outreach program, Arizona al Día, Edición Dominical.

The program, which airs at 5 p.m. Sundays on Telemundo 48, features a community calendar and a discussion with special guests and experts. Recent shows have featured immigrant rights activist Elias Bermudez, Isela Brown of Silent Witness, Lourdes Lerma of the Arizona Motor Vehicle Department, and Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon.

Emceed by Patricia Batres, the program attempts to remain in touch with the local community, a relationship that has been tested by the downsizing by NBC, owners of Telemundo.
