Chavez gets new post
Governor Janet Napolitano has appointed Anna Maria Chávez as her Deputy Chief of Staff for Urban Relations and Community Development. She was formerly Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. In her new position, Chávez promotes the governor's programs and initiatives through coordination with city, county and tribal governments. She also coordinates with federal agencies and community organizations. In addition, Chávez advises the governor on issues affecting the Latino community, oversees the governor's staff responsible for state senior citizens, as well as advises the governor on faith-based and community initiatives, housing, and economic development.
Chávez holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arizona, College of Law, and a B.A. in American history from Yale University. She formerly served the office of the U.S. Secretary of Transportation and at the U.S. Small Business Administration. For more info: (602) 542-1444.
