PROFESSORS GET REGENTS HONORS

Three University of Arizona professors were named Regents’ Professors by the Arizona Board of Regents. Ofelia Zepeda (linguistics), Michael Marcellin (electrical and computer engineering), and Malcolm Huges (dendrochronology) will have $5,000 each added to their salaries as a result of the appointments.

The distinction is for faculty scholars of exceptional ability who have achieved national and international recognition. Zepeda is co-founder of an Indian language center and a poet, Marcellin developed a new image compressor that revolutionizes the film industry, and Hughes’ tree-ring research helps to understand global climate change.
