Mendez Beltway bound
Highways aren’t sexy, but we all need ’em real bad.

Highways aren’t sexy, but we all need ’em real bad.
The man slated to keep us happy on the road is Arizonan Victor Mendez, who’s expected to receive easy confirmation as President Barack Obama’s nominee to lead the Federal Highway Administration.
Sometimes it pays to have friends in Washington. Mendez comes well prepared, as former director of the Arizona Department of Transportation. And the Arizona Republic reports that he has made “nationwide contacts as the president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.”
Still, it probably doesn’t hurt that his ex-boss, former Gov. Janet Napolitano, now has the ear of the president. Napolitano is secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
And if Mendez needs help finding his way around D.C., safely, former Arizona Lottery Director Art Macias now serves as the Transportation Security Administration’s chief of staff.
