ALAC raises $41,000 in cash and pledges
ALAC raised more than $41,000 in cash or pledges during its first major fund-raiser on May 28
Advocates for Latino Arts and Culture Consortium, Inc. (ALAC) raised more than $41,000 in cash or pledges during its first major fund-raiser on May 28, according to ErLinda Tórres, a dancer and choreographer, who volunteers as ALAC’s president.
The group hopes to open a temporary Latino cultural center in downtown Phoenix. Final negotiations with the City of Phoenix for a space on Adams Street near Second Avenue are underway, and some of the money raised will help finance the opening of that temporary site, Tórres says.
Those attending the fund-raiser heard from San Antonio architect Henry R. Muñoz III, who spearheaded the opening of The Alameda National Center of Latino Arts and Culture in San Antonio, a multi-million dollar effort he says took 15 years to accomplish.
