Nielsen launches new technology in Phoenix

Nielsen Company executives met with Valley elected officials, media industry representatives, and business and community leaders recently to introduce the company’s new Local People Meter technology to the Phoenix TV market. Nielsen representatives Monica Gil, VP of Communications & Public Affairs, and Dora Garcia, Manager for Public Affairs, hosted the event.

“Measuring the diverse Phoenix market is a priority for Nielsen,” says Garcia. The LPM is an advanced electronic device that records viewing behavior in real time. It records who is watching what programs, while measuring viewing on digital video recorders and other technology. At the meeting, Nielsen addressed questions and the outreach effort planned for Phoenix. Phoenix is the 12th largest TV market, and will join Miami, Denver, Cleveland and Minneapolis as the latest markets to adopt LPMs in 2008. Nielsen estimates that the Phoenix market has 1,802,550 TV households distributed throughout 11 counties.
