Forum 411 begins with Gen G

Immigration reform is arguably the biggest public policy challenge in America these days, and that’s the hot-button issue ASU’s Morrison Institute’s Forum 411 has chosen for its debut.

“Forum 411 was an idea born out of that passion and we wanted to join Arizona ’s leaders – and our next generation of leaders – as Morrison Institute guides us all in examining and probing the challenges and opportunities impacting our future,” says a press release. The name derives from the institute’s address.

The ASU think tank has a way of unsettling state leadership. It previously released a 2001 report titled Five Shoes Waiting to Drop on Arizona’s Future that challenged policymakers to grasp the problems and the positives stemming from Arizona’s growing Latino population.

The new public policy quarterly’s first report is titled, Immigration: From Global to Local to Kids, a subject that could again shake up state policymakers.

One of three Arizona children has at lease one immigrant parent, and almost 80 percent of these kids are U.S. citizens by birth, according to the report. Together with young immigrants, these children are called “Generation Global, or “Gen G.” And these children of migrating parents from all over the globe will have a big influence on Arizona’s current and future economy, adds 411.
