New music speaks with Brazilian accent

Quetzal Guerrero’s new EP Vamos Conversar signals the future of urban Latino sounds, and it comes via L.A. from a Mesa Chicano/Brazilian homegrown talent. Quetzal and his band The Warriors inspire us to believe it’s the born-in-the-USA, polyglot offspring of mixed marriages that will carry the banner of Latino music.

Conversar is a four-song set of Samba/Afro-Carribean/R & B/jazz influences stirred up in a cultural cauldron of Latin soul. Guerrero performs on vocals, violin, guitar, bass and percussion. On Where are You? he expresses the longing for that Special One with sparkling acoustic guitar riffs and sophisticated lyrics:

I dream of being accompanied by her presence at the symphony.

Right now it’s a cappella but I’m a tella that it’s meant for harmony.

The title cut Vamos a Conversar features Guerrero and Brazilian actress Otilia Olvera bantering erotically in Portuguese. These four tracks are a tight mix of Brazilian-centric rhythms and Latin percussion. Guerrero says that this EP is a “taste of what’s to come” on his forthcoming full set CD. The EP can be purchased through www.dancetracksdigital.com Web site, or for more info from Guerrero’s site, www.qviolin.com. That said, we’ll be counting the days until the CD release.
