Jazz that’ll have you stamping

A creation from the minds of San Francisco’s Michael Bartalos, and Scottsdale’s Richard Sheaff is included in 2008’s new U.S. Postal Service stamps.  Commemorating the rich musical heritage of Latin jazz, their stamp features a tropical evening scene that displays three musicians playing bass, piano and conga drums.  Bartalos is a Latin jazz fan, and the two wanted to depict the multicultural aspects of this music styling, its percussive and improvisational nature, and its rhythmic intricacies.  The bold and colorful stamp is accompanied by other stamps that feature Bette Davis, flags of our nation, American scientists and journalists and others.
