Riding for change
Wheeling back into the Valley this month is Ryan Reidel, who has been riding the 1,951 miles along the U.S.-Mexico border gathering stories about the people he encounters for a future book. Reidel is a self-described “cyclist for social change.”
Reidel’s five-year plan, according to his online bio, is to collaborate on a book of short stories and essays, work as a community organizer and go back into the academic world to sharpen the skills he’s learned on the road.
A posada in support of Reidel’s bicycling activities has been organized by the Cesar E. Chavez Leadership Institute Alumna Association will be held Dec. 3 from 5-9 p.m. at the ASU Visitor Information Center, on the northwest corner of Rural and Apache. Live music, food and performances are free to participants.
For more information about Reidel, who received the Valle del Sol 2006 Manuel Ortega Youth Leadership award, can be seen at his Web site: www.Border101.org
