Casting about for a winner

Doesn’t seem to matter how easy it is made, some people just don’t bother to cast votes.

At least, it seemed that way when LP Journal checked out the voting at Coors Brewing Company’s 2007 Lideres campaign page (www.coorslideres.com).

We decided to check how many votes had been cast for our hometown favorite, Raul Yzaguirre, who was selected by Coors as one of 20 Hispanic advocates across the nation. Imagine our dismay when we saw Yzaguirre, revered by many as a great leader, had received only one percent of votes cast. ¡Que lástima!

Coors announced Lillian Rodríguez López, president of the Hispanic Federation, won the competition and her nonprofit has been named 2007 Coors Hispanic Non-Profit Sponsor of the Year. The federation, which serves New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, will receive a $25,000 grant to support its Hispanic Leadership Institute.
