Steve Zozaya and his late wife Julia, were honored at an appreciation dinner in October for their life of community service. Carmen Abril Lopez, owner of Arizona Mexican Food Enterprise, sponsored the event. Steve, 87, brought the first SER Jobs for Progress Program to Arizona in 1966. Zozaya also served as SER national chairman. He was also a World War II veterano who earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His wife, Julia, was a leader in Arizona LULAC. She led a LULAC pioneering study that resulted in housing for Hispanic senior citizens. She became the first national vice president of LULAC in 1965. The couple bought Spanish-language radio station KNNN, which became a popular station for the Latino community. For more, call (602) 278-8783.
