Basha talks end

The Navajo Nation has ended discussions with development company

The Navajo Nation has ended discussions with Basha & De Rito Hospitality LLC, a gaming development company, to develop the tribe's first casinos on its reservation in Northern Arizona. The tribe said the action was based on "reconsideration of its needs." The hospitality venture company is headed by Eddie Basha, CEO of Basha's grocery stores, and Phoenix-based retail developer Marty De Rito. Last month, the tribe announced it was opening negotiations with the company to provide gaming development consulting services. Basha & De Rito Hospitality would have been the first to consult on Navajo gaming projects. The tribe expects to bring in $100 million annually with its first casino, planned to open along Interstate 40, near Navajo, about 55 miles west of Gallup, N.M. For more info: www.navajo.org.
