Buzz in the night

The coolest events happen after sundown.

Night owls have a chance to hear an intimate concert Aug. 25 at the Ruby Room, 717 S. Central Ave., Phoenix. The gig features local favorites Fatigo and our musical cousins from the Tijuana electro collective known as NORTEC.

Local musician Luke Dorsett (who goes by the handle Lxuk) will play with Fatigo guitarist Mike Montoya between sets, then launch into the NORTEC set. Other DJs include Bostich, Fussible, and VJ Cro.

Dorsett has ties to NORTEC’s Pepe Mogt.

“I sent a demo to Pepe in 1999 and I got good feedback on it, but the group had just started,” Dorsett says. “I traded samples and music and got invited to Tijuana to see what it was all about. I was totally blown away.”

Last fall, Dorsett invited Mogt to play at MonOrchid Gallery’s Frontera exhibition.

“We ended up playing together. Now I’ve played shows in Mexico with Bostich and multiple shows in the U.S.,” Dorsett says.
