Valley Leadership honored its 2006 Man and Woman of the Year at a luncheon March 28 at the Arizona Biltmore.
Luz Sarmina, president and CEO of Valle del Sol, and Bill Post, chairman of the board of Arizona Public Service, will be lauded for their respective leadership roles.
In her role at Valle, Sarmina has been involved in creating a comprehensive array of social services for the community over three decades, often focusing on Latinos and women, many of whom she has mentored. Valle is a nonprofit organization that offers a variety of behavioral health, social services and Latino leadership development programs to the community.
Post is well known for his push for early childhood education initiatives in the state, including the recent passage of First Things First and his support of such organizations as the New Directions Institute for Early Brain Development. He also is chairman of the board and CEO of APS' parent company, Pinnacle West Capital Corp.
"Both of these individuals are incredibly approachable human beings and you couldn't have better examples of leaders whose very humane values are the core of what they represent," says Scott Jacobson, executive director of Valley Leadership. This is the 58th year the organization has presented the awards.
The Valley Leadership awards luncheon benefits the organization's programs and scholarships for the Leadership Institute and Valley Teen Leadership.
