UA Journalism chapter born

A new chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists is born at UA.

University of Arizona journalism students have formed a campus chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

Only four other universities have student chapters. NAHJ was founded in 1984 with the mission of increasing the ranks of Hispanics in the news business.

The Latino students say they formed the chapter to give Hispanics a voice in the Tucson community.

"It's nice to have something we can call our own," says Ernesto Romero, who was elected secretary of the new NAJH student chapter. Other officers are Victoria Tinajero and Nathan Robert Olivarez-Giles, co-presidents; Matthew Scot Andazola, vice president; and Lorena Barraza, treasurer.
